Please read all information carefully! You are responsible for knowing deadlines and turning in everything required to audition. We are beginning the casting/crew selection process with the assumption that our world will be business is usual this fall, of course this is all subject to change as we adhere to DCSD policy and guidelines.
May 7 is the deadline for ALL submissions (google forms and video submissions).
Google Forms
The google forms are used for both audition information and as a helpful resource after casting. You MUST have a form on file for liability and safety reason. Please fill out the form before submitting your audition.
To be placed on a crew team you need to fill out the entire google form. The directors will review them like job applications and select the best members for their teams based on your skills and interests.
THIS IS NEW... For Leadership- The google form is your application- think of it as so. We will pull certain people to interview over the next few weeks based on experience and quality of answers. Interviews will be conducted via zoom. We may not interview everyone- it will depend on the quantity of applications and how qualified candidates are.
Remember if you are a new freshman making a case to be stage manager- you should have worked on a broadway show :). (Your resume should show a wealth of experience.)
Cast Information
This year for the general round of fall show auditions we are doing things differently- like everything else in our world. We ask for your patience as we navigate these uncharted waters. With that being said- video submissions are extremely common in the professional acting world and we're excited to diversify your audition experience and know how with this new process. Please be sure to read everything and ask for help if you need it- we are here to help!
We have not selected shows yet- we will use your auditions to narrow down our choices. Please be aware we may not cast shows until we can get you face to face (whenever that is). We may also try to do them virtually- just make sure we have correct contact information for you.
Requirements: All students auditioning must prepare TWO contrasting monologues. If you are interested in being in a potential musical one act- you need to also prepare TWO songs.
Avoid bathrooms and rooms with heavy echo or ambient (outside) noises
If you’re shooting on a cell, FILM YOUR VIDEO SIDEWAYS
Frame your video so we can see from your bellybutton to your head (we don’t want to see your actual bellybutton). Rest the phone on a solid surface; avoid having someone hold your phone.
Title Your Video as such: Joe Smith – Monologues – Lakeside General Audition Heather Chandler – Songs – Lakeside General Audition
Video submissions have a higher level of expectation since YOU control the content that you’re sending. No one is expecting cinematography
Monologues
Choose two contrasting monologues (comedic and dramatic)
Do not exceed three minutes for BOTH
Avoid TYA (Theatre for Young Audiences) show monologues for now. Avoid ‘You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown’.We’ve heard them all. We’ve heard actors do them every year since we’ve started.
Don’t stare into the camera when you deliver your monologue, make your focus spot either to the left or right of your camera.
Songs-
Choose two contrasting (different) songs; one from the list below, and one of your choices. Makes sure the songs fit your voice range.
Use Youtube, Spotify, Amazon Music, Accompanist, etc. to find instrumentals (No Acapella)
Play the instrumentals at a level where we can hear you sing
Before starting, announce your NAME and GRADE
Record 1 to 2 minutes of SINGING in one video. Pick a part of the song that showcases your voice. Avoid talk-singing parts and instrumental breaks.
